How-to-get-fit-for-business-Innovate-to-Success.

In this blog I will show you how to improve your wellbeing at work. When we think about business and work life we very rarely associate with the subject of health and fitness.

If like most people, your days are super busy and normally don’t get time for any quality breaks or downtime during the day. You rush past the vending machine or canteen and just hope that your favourite chocolate is in stock to keep you going. You then wonder why when it comes to 2pm you totally lose concentration in that meeting and your mind wanders off the task in that career critical presentation.

On the other hand, when you look around the office there are other people who just seem to have never ending energy and are perfect athletes in terms of mobility and fitness. You just wonder if you could ever be like that with such a busy and stressful job.

The main reason for this is because life is just too convenient these days, it is easy to be lazy about eating healthily and being active. On every street corner there is someone offering your next meal in a packet and with a click of an app, your taxi arrives!

Now is time to take action, because your body is your engine and we need this to be in tip top condition to enable us to perform at a high level and for long periods of time.

This is a big subject and one that is much bigger than a single blog. I will touch on just three tips to help you turbo-charge your way to a fitter and healthier business life.

Here are my Innovate to Success “Golden Nuggets” to get you started.

Tip 1
Eat Smarter.

Your brain operates efficiently at approximately 75 Htz. What this means is that you need to feed your body and brain with foods that match that frequency. Ever felt tired after eating a great big slab of chocolate cake? That’s because the frequency of chocolate cake is about 3 Htz and your brain has to divert your energy to enable it to be processed.

To avoid this, eat foods that have a much higher frequency like fresh greens, salad, wheatgrass, nuts and some vegetables. These are generally at the 70-80Htz level and therefore much easier to process. Avoid eating processed food as well as this also has a low frequency. So snack smart during the day on natural foods and reduce your sugar intake.

Tip 2
Take efficient exercise.

Fitting exercise into your busy scheduled doesn’t have to mean cramming in a gym session. You can do much of this in what I call NET time. This stands for No Extra Time.

Get off the train or underground one stop earlier and take a good brisk walk. Do this for 20 minutes and you will be surprised how positive and fresh you will feel when you arrive at the office. As you are moving around your office, don’t take the elevator take the stairs. Start off gradually and you will soon build up and move around the office much quicker.

Finally take 5-10 minutes a day to do some free weight exercises at home, like sit-ups, push-ups and stretches. Everyone can find five minutes and carried out consistently you will see the difference in a matter of weeks. Try and do this at the beginning of the day rather than at the end. Sleep Quicker!

Tip 3
Strategically hydrate.

Your body needs to be hydrated to operate correctly. Having the right hydration level is critical to keep your brain ticking and your thoughts active. Also as you will be working faster, your decision making will be quicker and you will naturally be more attentive.

This helps your personal brand as it will help you being seen as someone who is always “On the ball”.

Start off by drinking at least 2 litres of water a day. Coffee, tea and sugary drinks actually dehydrate you. If you are drinking coffee then make sure that you have a glass of water with you as well.

If you want to go “All in” like I did, then do a Detox. I am now caffeine free and have never been able to concentrate for longer while having a never ending supply of energy.

If you action the above tips, you will see some awesome changes in not only your body but also your performance and attention at work. I went all in and now regularly drink fresh green drinks and have a health body and mind. I have banned sugary energy drinks and eat little processed food. I challenge you to give it a go!

These three tips on how to improve your wellbeing at work are integrated into my Drive programme. This particular subject falls under the second section called REVIEW, which is all about understanding where you are from a body and mind point of view.
